SEASONAL INSPECTION RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LONG ISLAND WATERFRONT

Water temperature drives everything here. Long Island Sound runs near 38 to 39°F in February and around 73°F in August. The Great South Bay averages roughly 43°F in winter and 70°F in summer. That swing sets the calendar for marine growth, ice risk, and dive planning.

Spring — March through May

Water roughly 40 to 58°F. Growth minimal. The best structural work window of the year, and the cleanest bucket test window since evaporation is low.

Summer — June through September

Water roughly 65 to 74°F. Peak biofouling, peak vessel traffic, peak swim-area exposure.

Fall — October through November

Water roughly 50 to 65°F and dropping. Atlantic hurricane season runs through November 30, with nor'easter exposure building.

Winter — December through February

Water roughly 38 to 45°F. Peak ice risk.
