Moderate tidal range with real current through the Shelter Island Sound approaches. Inside the protected harbor conditions are manageable, which is part of why the harbor supports the deep-draft yachts it does.
Good by Long Island standards. Six to twelve feet is achievable on clean water, dropping in the inner harbor basins and after weather.
Moderate to heavy. High-salinity East End water supports substantial hard growth on running gear and underwater metals.
